I’m Deleting My Author Page On Facebook — Here’s Why
For those of you who don’t know, Facebook offers a nifty feature that allows you to create an author page, similar to other pages, but with a few other helpful features.
For one, having an author page allows you to utilize paid advertisements, which helps you reach a larger audience. It’s also a great platform to share your best work. Oh, and if you have any books or online products, you can link those in the description. Sounds cool, right?
However, even with all that, I’m still deciding to delete my author page — here’s why.
Facebook requires too much marketing.
Partly, this one falls on me. As a writer, I’d prefer to focus on just that — writing. However, having an author page requires a tad bit of marketing, not writing. Who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy the marketing aspect, but I honestly feel like the more time I spend marketing my work, the less time I have to write quality content. Plus, even though I average 20–30,000 views per month, I receive minimal engagement from those on FB. Unless it’s an infographic or a meme, you’ll likely receive little to no engagement.
