How to Unclog your RV Toilet
So, you’ve got a clogged toilet. What now? Well, unfortunately it’s not as easy as taking a plunger to it. RVs and trailers are built a bit differently than your traditional toilet, so a plunger can actually damage your black tank, which is what holds all your sewage.
Fortunately, I’ve gone through the worst, so you don’t have to. I tried everything from jamming it with PVC pipe, dunking dissolvent down the drains…I even got so desperate that once I tried to pull the sewage out the bottom via a long flexible barbed rod — highly don’t recommend.
Turns out, all you need are two simple yet effective tools.
- Camco Magic Wand
- Rhino blaster.
Here’s my 9-step process to unclogging your RV, guaranteed.
- Shut off your water and hook up a spare hose — one that you don’t use for regular water supply.
- Attach a Magic Wand
- Open black water tank
- Insert magic wand into toilet (make sure water supply is shut off to RV).
- Put on gloves and if possible, face protection — trust me.
- Turn on water and spray inside of toilet with magic wand. Continue to do so until all toilet paper and sewage breaks up/dissolves.
- Shut off magic wand and turn off water supply.
- Attach Rhino Blaster to external end of black tank. Connect hose to rhino blaster.
- Turn on water & let the rhino blaster do its job. It’ll blast a stream of water through the bottom of your black tank, dissolving any remaining sewage, allowing it to drain. Can also be used for cleaning your black and gray tank.
