How to Prepare for Winter in your RV or Travel Trailer
Living in an RV or Travel Trailer full-time can be highly rewarding. With that said, however, winters can be brutally unforgiving.
Some newer RVs and Travel Trailers come equipped with adequate insulation, however, if you’re anything like me, then you’ll need to take a few added steps to ensure you and your family are prepared for the winter season.
How to prepare for Winter in your RV
- Shrink wrap all windows with a window kit, which adds a second layer of insulation. Unlike UV films which keep the heat out, shrink wraps will help keep the heat in.
- Ensure that the exterior of your trailer is sealed using a silicone caulk. Seal around windows, exposed trim, sides of trailer, and on roof.
- Use a liquid rubber roof sealant to help keep heat from escaping.
- Use a heated water hose rated for up to -20 degrees.
- Wrap any exposed pipes and faucet with think insulated foam, followed by a hefty trash bag for weather resistance.
- Purchase a dehumidifier and moisture absorbent bags to prevent moisture resulting from humidity.
- Upgrade your propane tank to a 100 or 120-lb tank
- Use an electric heater to save on propane and reduce humidity
